The Kidde 1279-9999 AC Powered Wireless Smoke Alarm allows for the easy installation of an interconnected smoke alarm system without the high cost and hassle of rewiring your home. The alarms are wirelessly linked so that when one alarm is triggered, all alarms will sound. This alarm can also be placed in a detached workshop or shed and linked into the home's interconnected system.

Experts recommend interconnected alarms, because when one sounds, they all sound, providing an early warning against fire by dramatically increasing your ability to hear an alarm anywhere in your home, regardless of where the fire starts. Newer homes are required by code to have interconnected alarms. Wireless technology now enables any home to have an interconnected system.

This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Getting Started with Wireless Interconnect in Three Easy Steps

Step 1 - Determine the type of smoke alarms currently installed in your house.

1. Battery Powered
No wires; runs only on batteries.
Most older homes have battery-powered smoke alarms. These alarms have no protruding wires and are battery powered.

2. Hardwired
Runs on your home's electricity and may have battery backup. Only one alarm sounds when test button is pressed.
If your home was built in the last 20 years, you probably have hardwired smoke alarms. If only the alarm that you test sounds, then you do not have an interconnected system.

3. Interconnected
Runs on your home's electricity and may have battery backup. All alarms sound when one test button is pressed.
Homes built in the last 15 years may have an interconnected smoke alarm system. If all alarms sound when you test, you have an interconnected system.

Step 2 - Decide how many alarms you need in your home.

The NFPA recommends at least one smoke alarm on every level of the home and in every sleeping area.

Step 3 - Based on your home's current alarm set-up, decide which Kidde Wireless alarms to purchase.

3. If your home has interconnected smoke alarms:
Purchase one Kidde Wireless AC Powered Smoke Alarms to replace one current smoke alarm. Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Alarms can then be installed in additional rooms.

Interconnectable for Improved Safety
Fire and consumer experts recommend interconnected alarms for added protection. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), most Americans feel they are more at risk of being a victim of a tornado than of a house fire. Actually the opposite is true. Fires are more common than any other disaster that strikes a family at home, and can become deadly in minutes. You have on average less than three minutes from the time you hear a smoke alarm to escape a fire. The sooner you hear an alarm, the sooner you can get out safely. Smoke alarms that link together so that when one goes off, they all go off, are called interconnected alarms. These alarms provide more warnings in more places, giving your family more time to escape a house fire. Houses built after 1993 are required by building codes to have interconnected alarms that are wired into their electrical system.

Trademarked Hush Feature for Convenience
By pressing the Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners.

This alarm's Smart Hush feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to 8 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every 8 seconds while in hush. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition. The smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately 8 minutes and sound the alarm if particles of combustion are still present. Smart Hush can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the hush period.

Battery Backup, Indicator LED, and Test Feature
Because a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 10 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm also contains a test/reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn.

The alarm's battery backup provides continuous protection against smoke and fire hazards, even during power outages. The unit offers a low battery warning that issues a brief chirp every 30 to 40 seconds for at least seven days before losing power, letting you know that it's time to change the battery.

The AC wire-in Kidde KN-COP-IC carbon monoxide alarm offers multiple contractor-friendly features to ensure easy installation and minimal troubleshooting. It can be installed on any standard single gang electrical box (up to a 4-inch octagon junction box), and it features a snap-on electrical harness for quick installation and an adjustable mounting bracket for perfect alignment. The unit also includes a smart interconnect system with up to 24 Kidde devices, including smoke alarms. When interconnected, it can sound its carbon monoxide alarm pattern as well as sound a different alarm pattern when a Kidde smoke alarm is in alarm mode.

It features three color LEDs for at-a-glance status updates. A green LED lights constantly when AC power is present, and it flashes every 7 seconds when in battery mode. An amber LED illuminates during a CO incident, while a red LED flashes in unison with the audible alert for both a smoke or CO incident. A digital display allows constant monitoring of carbon monoxide levels and updates every 15 seconds to let you know if levels change. The peak level memory feature displays the highest CO level measured since the last reset. A battery-backup system (powered by included 9-volt battery) provides continuous monitoring of carbon monoxide levels even during a power failure. The Kidde KN-COSM-B battery-operated carbon monoxide and smoke alarm combines two important safety devices into a single unit. This alarm includes a voice warning system that makes four announcements: fire, carbon monoxide, low battery, or smart hush activation. The voice alarm eliminates any confusion and clearly warns you and your family of a smoke or carbon monoxide danger, or if your battery is in need of replacement. This unit uses three AA batteries, protecting you and your family even during a power outage.

This alarm uses ionization-sensing technology for the smoke alarm. Ionization-sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric-sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help ensure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarm
The Kidde combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarm includes a voice warning system that eliminates confusion and clearly warns you and your family of a smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) danger, of low battery, or of hush-mode setting.

Alarm Warnings
Fire: The red LED will flash and be accompanied by three long alarm beeps followed by a verbal warning message: "Fire! Fire!" The alarm will repeat the pattern until smoke is eliminated.

Carbon Monoxide: Four short alarm beeps followed by a verbal warning: "Warning--carbon monoxide!" This continues until the unit is reset or the CO is eliminated.

Low Battery: One chirp followed by warning: "Low battery." The red LED light will flash. This pattern will continue every minute for the first hour. After the first hour, the red LED light will flash once every minute and will be accompanied by the chirp sound. The low-battery warning will only sound once every 15 minutes.

Voice Hush Indication: "Hush activated" and "Hush canceled" voice announcement.

Peak Level Memory: If the alarm had detected a CO level of 100ppm or higher when the test/reset button is pressed, the unit will announce, "Carbon monoxide previously detected" to warn of the CO incident.

Trademarked Hush Feature for Convenience
By pressing the hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners.

This feature desensitizes the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately, the unit will verbally announce, "Hush mode activated," and the green LED will flash every two seconds for approximately 10 minutes.

Reliable Battery Power, Indicator LED, Test Feature and Low-Battery Warning
The battery-powered alarm provides continuous protection, even during power outages. Because this alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 30 to 40 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm also contains a test/reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn.

If any form of battery failure is detected, the red LED light will flash and the unit will chirp one time, followed by the warning message, "low battery." This cycle will occur once every minute, and will continue for at least seven days.

Seven years after initial power up, this unit will chirp" every 30 seconds. This is an operational end-of-life feature that will indicate that it is time to replace the alarm. UL 2034, the independent standard applicable to CO alarms, requires CO alarms to have an end-of-life warning. This requirement went into effect in March 2007, meaning any CO alarm manufactured after April 2007 with a UL listing must have this feature. Most states that require CO alarms in residential dwellings mandate that the alarm meet the UL 2034 standard.

The unit measures just 5.75 inches in diameter and 1.7 inches deep, and it features a neutral white finish. It includes tamper-resistant features to deter vandalism or theft. This combination smoke/CO alarm is UL listed, so you can be confident of its quality, and it is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide, Methane, and Propane Exposure
The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.

Likewise, methane and propane gases are commonly used in homes for cooking, heating, and water heating. Although it happens rarely, gas leaks can sometimes occur inside the home, increasing the risk of fire or explosion.

If methane gas or propane gas is detected, the alarm will emit beeps every other second with "GAS" shown in the display.

The KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk is preferred among traditional CO and explosive gas alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged. The continuous display also shows if gas is present.

LED Shows Sensor Status
With the KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.

Convenient Mounting Options
The KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf.
